Pathology Resident Orientation: Skills, Practice, Education, and Resources at UPMC (“PROSPER @ UPMC”) PGY1 AP Curriculum
- Virtual Welcome Party (post-match) – Matched applicants virtually meet current residents and the program director and program staff over lunch
- Path Pals (post-match – March) – Incoming PGY1s are paired with current PGY1s or PGY2s who serve as buddies/advocates for the academic year
- Preparatory Reading (post-match) – Pathology textbooks and a suggested reading list are provided for incoming PGY1s to prepare them for starting pathology residency at UPMC
- General Orientation (First week of July) – PGY1s are given a general orientation to the Department, undergo CoPath Training, attend a “Welcome Party,” and participate in fun events
- AP Onboarding Bootcamp (Second week of July – early August) – PGY1s undergo Frozen Section, Autopsy and Grossing Training, receive orientation to AP Evening Call, and attend PGY1-specific weekly didactics
- PGY1-specific Monthly Conferences (September – March) – PGY1s attend conferences specifically designed for them: PGY1 Gross Conference and PGY1 Critical Reasoning/Clinical Review First Friday Conference
