UPMC Clinical Test Development Laboratory


The UPMC Clinical Test Development Laboratory’s goal is to provide high-quality human specimens at an affordable rate and rapid turnaround time within a CLIA-certified and CAP-approved environment. Our state-of-the-art lab features automated tissue processing, rapid tissue embedding, routine histologic services, and automated staining with appropriate quality assurance and quality controls.

Our services include:

Automated and rapid tissue processing and embedding Hematoxylin-and-eosin staining
Histologic unstained/blank slides from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue blocks Automated microbiology assessment using clinically available special stains
Automated immunohistochemical staining using clinical grade antibodies Chromogenic in situ hybridization services using DNA- and RNA- based probes
Optimization and validation of investigator submitted antibodies on an automated platform Digital slide scanning services
