Nigar Anjuman Khurram specializes in surgical pathology, with a particular focus on liver, transplant, and gastrointestinal pathology.

After acquiring her MD, she subsequently delved into the intricacies of surgical pathology and pursued a dedicated surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Her dedication to understanding the complexities of liver diseases, including tumors and medical conditions, led her to specialize in native/transplant liver and gastrointestinal pathology at University of California San Francisco. Her deep-seated interest in this field has propelled her to contribute to the medical community's understanding of liver health. Her research covers a broad spectrum of topics within her field, from the molecular analysis of lung cancer to the study of liver allograft health. She has also delved into the intricate interplay between COVID-19 and the human body, investigating the effects of the virus on different organ systems. She is a strong advocate of multiplexing and Nano string technology for more refined understanding of tumor and non-tumor liver pathology.

Her passion for teaching and research is evident in her engagement with medical students and colleagues alike. She has introduced different tracks to enroll national and international students/scholars to her program at UPMC and has revamped the division’s website for easy and effective online education.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Khurram leads a vibrant life outside of medicine. Her interests span from 3D animation design to gardening and cooking, showcasing her multifaceted personality.
