David Alan Vorp, PhD

Education

  • BS - 1986, University of Pittsburgh
  • PhD - 1992, University of Pittsburgh

Research Interests

As the Director of the Vascular Bioengineering Research Lab, Dr. Vorp's research focuses on vascular biomechanics. He is currently studying the biomechanical evaluation of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms in patients with and without heritable disorders, and the bioengineering and biological studies of aneurysm weakening. Dr. Vorp has published more than 100 peer-review research manuscripts and 40 of them are focused on the biomechanics of aortic aneurysms. He has several patents in the field of vascular mechanics and is a co-founder of the start-up Neograft Technologies, Inc., a company that applies technology developed in Dr. Vorp's laboratory relating to biodegradable support for arterial vein grafts.

Awards and Honors

ASME Van C. Mow Medal and delivered the associated lecture at the annual Summer Bioengineering Conference, June 2011
